Wezen means essence in Flemish. That word would give the project its name and define the way we approached the design.

In this 446 sqm home in London, the essence would already be there. It would reside in the light, in the relationship with the surrounding trees, and in a layout that had long shaped the life of the house. Our role would be to bring that essence into sharper focus.

Materiality would support that intention. Wood, natural stone, stucco and warm lighting would create a calm atmosphere. The landscape would extend into the living spaces until it became part of the interior. Music and yoga would share a single, interconnected space designed for focus and contemplation.

Inspired by the Belgian architecture of Axel Vervoordt and Vincent Van Duysen, Wezen House would seek to ensure that every decision brought the home closer to its most intimate nature. A house that would find its character in what is essential.
