In parallel with the program’s integration process, our challenge was to understand the daily difficulties faced by people with Alzheimer's disease and to create a space that offered quality of life—a place where they could feel at home. With this goal in mind, the principles guiding the design are the following: maximizing natural light and modulating it through various filters; enhancing the connection between outdoor and indoor spaces; providing simple circulation paths, specifically designed to ease the users' daily routines; warmth, one of the most essential elements; and flexibility and adaptability of the various spaces. Additionally, the project is developed entirely with a cross-laminated timber structure, providing warmth to the space and contributing to sustainability. This project was carried out under the direction as Project Director at GCA Architects.
